At Latinos Progresando, we use all of our interactions with families, teenagers, and business owners to better understand our community’s needs and priorities. With those needs in mind, we collaborate and develop solutions.
Below are examples of Latinos Progresando’s Community Development.
Our Dr. Angela Perez Miller Scholarship gives students access to an affordable college education, regardless of their documentation status to help our communities produce informed, engaged young people.
Dr. Angela Perez Miller’s work has helped Latino children access the resources they need for a full education, and we’re privileged to honor her with a scholarship that does the same, by making college accessible to Latino youth.
Since communities are best supported by organizations that coordinate their services, we manage the Marshall Square Resource Network, a coalition of nonprofits and businesses that work as a team to serve the Southwest-side of Chicago.
The Marshall Square Resource Network (MSRN) is a consortium of 14 organizations that work within a 10 block area. The MSRN meets monthly to share best practices and discuss ways to improve services. All 14 participating organizations also learn about each other’s work, which helps us to make better referrals and to collaborate around community issues. If you have questions about the MSRN, please contact Luis Gutierrez at luis@latinospro.org.
An important part of our work is community awareness. We coordinate presentations and outreach, because we know that our expertise is most valuable when it is shared not just with staff and clients, but also with all people that help create informed communities.
Latinos Progresando’s research on the effects of Mexican drug violence on Chicagoans analyzed an influential, often overlooked issue that affects Mexicans in Chicago. Our staff presents across Chicago, the United States, and the world about the issues and stories we encounter here at Latinos Progresando.
To help our clients access information about finance, health, and other concerns, we invite in our expert community partners to interact with families in our office while they wait to see a caseworker.
Latinos Progresando welcomes the input and energy of community members, students, and professionals, and offers meaningful ways to get involved.
