Under general supervision, independently, as a sworn peace officer, conducts journeyman level inter-state and intra-state criminal investigations of tax fraud, tax evasion and other illegal acts which circumvent Department of Revenue laws which includes the State Lottery, Liquor Control Commission and Racing Board; serves as a team member in the more complex or controversial investigations; travels as needed to conduct interviews. Obtains facts and evidence through surveillance, interviews and analysis of books and records; participates in searches, raids and arrests; confers with taxpayers, their representatives, witnesses and others; works closely with Federal, State and local law enforcement personnel; prepares detailed comprehensive reports of investigations; compiles evidence for court presentation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Requires completion of four years of college, with major coursework in accounting, law enforcement, business administration, pre-law or related areas; up to two years of police investigative or enforcement experience may be substituted on a year-foryear basis for the college training. Requires successful completion of the Revenue Special Agent Trainee training program; requires successful completion of a firearms qualification course annually, as a condition of employment; requires an appropriate valid drivers license and ability to travel frequently; requires working knowledge of tax laws, regulations and filing procedures, and pertinent criminal statutes; requires working knowledge of laws of arrest, search and seizures, service of legal process, rights of citizens and rules of evidence. Requires physical ability to perform duties enumerated above.
