For the first time in 2015, Teatro Americano partnered with neighboring OPEN Center for the Arts to have access to its own rehearsal and performance space. This collaboration gave our performers the room to yell, dance, sing, and truly develop as artists…and it showed:
Forty young artists learning the basics of theater developed the skills to write, produce and perform three original scripts.
Teatro Americano also added a series of folkloric dance workshops, open to community members of all ages.
2015 also marked the resurgence of the Teatro Americano multi-generational ensemble. Beginning with a series of workshops, rehearsing scenes from Teatro Americano’s first production (La Victima), the ensemble has been doing short performances at events.
The year closed with the news that Teatro Americano would be returning to Mexico for the third time in 2016–this time to Mexico City to learn about Mexican contemporary theater.
