The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), is seeking to hire a Web Communications Intern. The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is the official regional planning organization for the northeastern Illinois counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will. CMAP developed and now guides the implementation of metropolitan Chicago’s first comprehensive regional plan in more than 100 years, GO TO 2040,which was adopted unanimously by leaders from across the seven counties in fall 2010. To address anticipated population growth of more than 2 million new residents, GO TO 2040 establishes coordinated strategies that help the region’s 284 communities address transportation, housing, economic development, open space, the environment, and other quality-of-life issues. The CMAP web communications intern will help ensure the successful and timely migration of extensive content (including more than 650 web pages and related files) to a new Document and Media Library. CMAP’s website uses the Liferay portal Content Management System (CMS). The intern will help associate current pages with PDFs and media content. The intern will help save the content source code, with making the transfers, and assist with quality assurance.
The intern will be responsible for:
● Assisting the web communications staff in migrating content by:
● Saving the original content source code and files as backup on CMAP’s internal shared drive or a hard drive.
● Creating a spreadsheet of web pages and related content for reference.
● Recreate pages by copying and associating related content on the CMAP website and new Document and Media Library.
● Verify that pages have been successfully created.
CMAP’s web communications team will undertake this project section by section, completing the transfers, and reviewing the content recreation with the staff content leads. While interns will be supervised by CMAP communication staff, they will be expected to take a high level of responsibility for their own work and should be self-motivated and organized and have high attention to detail, as well as eager to collaborate with other CMAP staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Applicants should have a working knowledge of common operating systems and software applications including Windows 7 and Microsoft Office (i.e. 2007, 2010). Must be proficient with HTML and have prior experience with web content management software and systems (not
necessarily Liferay). Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
Education and Experience
Applicants for the position should be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. It is important that applicants have an understanding and aptitude in organizing and tracking large amounts of data and collaborating on multi-party projects.
This is a full-time summer position without benefits. The intern will be expected to work approximately 37.5 hours per-week during the summer (May 20, 2013 – August 16, 2013). At CMAP’s discretion the internship may be extended into the school term (August 19, 2013 –
December 20, 2013) as a part-time internship at 19.0 hours per week. Minor start and end date accommodations may be made upon request.

$12.00 – $15.00 per hour
