Director of Advocacy & Impact

Status: Full-time

Payment: $70,000 to $75,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Founded in 1998, Latinos Progresando is a nonprofit organization that elevates the well-being of the Mexican community. Latinos Progresando provides quality, affordable immigration legal services, reaching families from more than 60 countries worldwide. Additionally, the organization leads a 60-organization coalition called the Marshall Square Resource Network, offers arts and cultural programming, and provides scholarship funding to students from immigrant families.

Latinos Progresando’s Director of Advocacy & Impact will lead the organization’s efforts to create an advocacy platform that builds bridges and elevates the well-being of the Mexican community through leadership development, policy, and cultural amplification.

Responsibilities

Director of Advocacy & Impact

  • Reporting to the Chief Programs Officer, the Director of Advocacy & Impact will be responsible for building and executing strategies that strengthen the impact of Latinos Progresando’s work in the Mexican community and civic community at large.
  • The Director will supervise one staff member and collaborate with community leaders, government entities, and partner organizations to achieve program goals.

Policy & Advocacy

  • Develop and implement policy strategies that support the advancement of the Mexican community in Chicago and beyond.
  • Engage with local, state, and national policymakers to advocate for issues impacting the community.
  • Monitor legislative and policy developments relevant to Latinos Progresando’s mission and provide strategic recommendations.

Leadership Development & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Create and oversee leadership programs that foster the growth of Mexican leaders in civic, business, and nonprofit sectors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including community organizations, business leaders, and elected officials.
  • Represent Latinos Progresando in external coalitions and partnerships that align with program goals.

Event Coordination & Cultural Amplification

  • Organize events, forums, and initiatives that highlight Mexican history, culture, and contributions to civic life.
  • Develop strategies to increase public awareness of the Mexican community’s impact and leadership.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment between cultural programming and organizational goals.
  • Coordinate webinars, in person workshops, and panels to provide information and emergency resources to stakeholders.

Program & Budget Management

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of program initiatives.
  • Manage program budgets, ensuring responsible allocation of resources.
  • Track key metrics and outcomes to assess the effectiveness of program activities.

Supervision & Team Collaboration

  • Provide leadership and support to a direct report, ensuring professional development and program alignment.
  • Work closely with the Chief Programs Officer and other Latinos Progresando departments to integrate efforts across the organization.
Responsibilities may also include other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, law, sociology, or a related field; JD or advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public policy, advocacy, or leadership development.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing programs.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Strong public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Established relationships with Latino leaders in the Chicagoland area.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) fluency required.
  • Deep understanding of local government systems and processes.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google tools.
