Senior Finance Director

Status: Full-time

Payment: Salary commensurate with experience

Latinos Progresando’s Senior Finance Director plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial sustainability and integrity of the organization’s mission-driven initiatives. Leading the finance team, they are responsible for overseeing budgeting, financial planning, and reporting, while also implementing strategic financial policies to support the organization’s goals. This role often involves navigating complex funding structures and grant compliance, requiring strong communication and collaboration skills. The Senior Finance Director serves as a trusted advisor to the executive leadership, providing financial insights to inform decision-making and ensuring transparency and accountability.

Founded in 1998, Latinos Progresando delivers high-quality information and resources for people to build secure, healthy, and productive lives. Latinos Progresando provides high-quality, affordable immigration legal services, cultural programming, and a scholarship fund for students from immigrant families. Additionally, the organization leads a 60-organization coalition called the Marshall Square Resource Network, with a spectrum of hyper-local, collaborative initiatives that support community wellness and vitality.

Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis
  • Support organizational leaders with information and analysis to inform strategic decisions
  • Monitor financial performance and work with Executive Team and outsourced Controller to develop long-range financial plans aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities
  • Review, analyze, and present financial statements to the CEO, Finance Committee, Board of Directors
  • Ensure good stewardship of the organization’s funds through sound financial management
  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including ensuring quality control over financial transactions and reporting
  • Supervise the performance of third-party vendors supporting finance work
  • Run annual budget process
  • Monitor and manage the organization’s cash flow
  • Monitor and track restricted funds
  • Monitor compliance with financial control policies and procedures; develop and implement additional policies as needed

Asset Management

  • With leadership, develop and implement investment strategies aligned with the organization’s assets and strategic priorities
  • Maintain capital budget for the organization’s properties
  • Perform annual CAM reconciliations and assessments for tenants in the organization’s properties
  • Manage the organization’s capital debt and, with CEO, loan repayment strategy

Accounting Cycle

  • Support Finance Committee, including administering and running semi-monthly Committee meetings, maintaining records, and responding to inquiries
  • Guide preparation of materials for the annual audit and work with outside accountants and external auditors to ensure a smooth, compliant, and efficient audit process
  • Oversee preparation of annual tax filings
  • Oversee and direct the work of outsourced accounting services providers
  • Supervise Bookkeeper, including workflow management and performance evaluation

Grant Administration & Compliance

  • Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/contract period
  • Develop budgets and reports for projects, programs, and grant on as-needed basis
  • Manage risk and ensure compliance with nonprofit and donor requirements

Payroll

  • Supervise and review biweekly payroll; run payroll as back-up for the Bookkeeper
  • Work closely with Chief Operating Officer on administration of benefits program
  • Prepare, issue, and file annual 1099s

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of nonprofit finance experience
  • Management experience
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with acute attention to detail
  • Self-directed and able to work independently and drive projects to completion
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Experience with financial accounting and payroll systems like Quickbooks, Paychex, and Bill.com, and strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Comfort working in Google Suite
