This year marks the 10th anniversary of Latinos Progresando’s participation in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. In this banner year, Team Latinos has hit a new record number of runners – 50 in total!
Latinos Progresando first joined the race in 2012 with a single runner, long-time LP supporter Edgar Hernandez. The following year, LP became an official partner of the marathon, and now works each year to build an all-star team of marathon runners, many of whom have a personal connection to our mission.
Monica Jimenez joined Team Latinos to run the Chicago Marathon for the first time this year. “It’s a privilege to run for Latinos Progresando,” she shared. “I came to the United States when I was 14 years old and organizations like Latinos Progresando helped my family and me navigate the new world.”
Team Latinos runners hail from across the country and globe! They include new and seasoned runners, staff and supporters, and more. Stay tuned for more information on our race day cheering section on October 9th.
Assistant Director of Development Carmen Guzman noticed an influx of runners after our rapid, robust COVID response in 2020-2021. “Our runners are really moved by Latinos Progresando’s work, in general, and they were deeply inspired by our Covid response,” Carmen said.
“Out of over 50 charitable organizations, 50 runners chose Latinos Progresando, and that is an incredible testament to the work that we do each day.”
